Cold Email Reply Rate Benchmarks: What Is a Good Reply Rate?

Reply rate is the simplest truth serum in cold email. Opens can be noisy. Clicks can be accidental. Replies are someone deciding you were worth a response.

How to calculate reply rate

Reply rate = (Replies ÷ Emails delivered) × 100

Use delivered, not just sent, when you can. Bounced mail never had a chance.

For a quick read, the cold email reply rate calculator turns sends, replies, positive replies, and meetings into rates and a simple benchmark label.

Rough B2B benchmarks (cold)

These are directional, not laws:

| Reply rate | Rough read |
|------------|------------|
| Under 1% | Something is broken (list, domain, offer, or copy) |
| 1–3% | Common for broad cold outbound |
| 3–5% | Solid for many B2B motions |
| 5–8%+ | Strong — tight ICP or strong offer |
| 8%+ | Excellent for true cold |

Positive reply rate and meeting rate matter more for revenue, but total reply rate is still the first diagnostic.

When the rate is low

Work the stack in order:

  1. Deliverability — are you even in the inbox? Check domain health and authentication.
  2. List — verify with the email verifier; tighten ICP.
  3. Subject — score with the subject line checker.
  4. Body — spam terms and length via spam checker and word counter.
  5. Offer — clear value and a small ask beat a pitch deck in email form.

Volume without reply rate is vanity

Sending 10,000 emails at 0.3% reply rate loses to 1,000 emails at 5%. Infrastructure should scale what already works, not amplify noise.

If you have volume targets and need the fleet sized to a reply-driven plan, start a build.
